It's now 28 years since Australia lost a Test at Brisbane and they have won 10 consecutive Tests at home against Pakistan.
And haven't lost a Test at home against anyone but S Africa for 5 years.
Playing a day/night Test probably gives some of these countries a chance.
Just imagine if our team was actually any good.

Any thoughts on the proposed move by Cricket Australia to ONLY have day/night test matches because they can't seem to win any others Sven?

Re: 5th Test: India v England at Chennai
Seems the period is from mid Sept 2015 to mid Sept 2016 which sometimes makes it hard to remember what is included as Test cricket has moved on a fair bit in the last couple of months.
Obviously Kohli absolutely dominating England and Cook losing to Bangladesh and then 4 times to India isn't.

Kane Williamson playing 5 Tests against Australia and losing 4 of them and escaping with one cowardly draw IS included.

Ha ha classic

"Wiliamson was named at No 3 in the 2016 test team of the year with England all-rounder Ben Stokes the only other Kiwi in the selection announced by the ICC on Thursday."

I see Steve Smith could only make 12th man, but apparently he's going to be captain of the Ladies side.

Think the year runs October to October or something similar.
Kohli not in the Test team of the year.

Graeme Smith was captaining SA at age 22.

Presumably Leach played a few away games, but I get your point.

Anzari was a very strange selection. While I'd agreed with the pick for Pakistan (missed it through injury) he wasn't particularly good in 2016. He missed some of the season with a back injury too, so no-one should have been surprised when he was a) very average, and b) got injured again. I think Batty almost got picked because England didn't have any other seasoned spinners to pick from.

Talking of which, Tom Abell is the new skip at Taunton, he's only 22 with just 32 games under his belt, brave move.

Re: 5th Test: India v England at Chennai
Chris Rogers said Leach had had one good season and that he wasn't that mature having virtually never left Somerset.
By the look of him I am not sure he has KISSED A GIRL yet.

They ended up picking Professor Anzari from Surrey who used his thesis on spin to bowl a load of old pies before breaking.

Re: 5th Test: India v England at Chennai
Lach wasn't picked because his county captain, Chris Rogers told Andrew Strauss he wasn't ready to play for England.

Whether or not that was a cover for the issues concerning the legality of his action is another matter, but that is what Rogers told Strauss.

Leach wont get picked, the wurzels aren't fashionable enough, that's why BATTY got the nod

I wonder if the county umpires will be sent for additional training given none of them noticed what Chuck LEACH was up to last summer?

Still don't see it with Rashid tbh, seemed to pick up most of his wickets from half trackers hit down people's throats or from the tail.

Averaging 35 in first class cricket tells its own story too.

Haven't seen a huge amount of him, but would prefer to see Jack LEACH given a go now he's got his action sorted, and pending his Lions performances.

Re: 5th Test: India v England at Chennai
As I said before, leg spinners don't do well in India, Hut Rashid is definitely someone we should stick with. He will get better the more he plays for England, whereas I think we've seen the best of Ali with the ball.

Bernie 11:49 Wed Dec 21
Re: 5th Test: India v England at Chennai
Rashid needs to be shown that the selectors have faith in him to help build his confidence

Chopping and changing him when we think the pitch 'may' spin won't help him build any consistency whatsoever.

If there is a place for Ali as a batsmen then great, but that's all he should be in the side as

Has Ali scored 4 centuries in the same batting position? No. He has scored them up and down the order. Don't forget how quickly England dropped the idea of him being a specialist opener or 3.

Rashid is a bowler who bats, but at this point, you have to give him some space in terms of his developement. Is he worth a long term punt? He will bowl shit, but also magic balls. His role in the side needs to be determined. As for his batting, while his average is crap, the tendency is to bat as per your position. If you bat 4, you'll play like a batsman, if 10/11. then a tail ender. it's one of those odd things.

I think we have so many poor man's allrounders we've lost sight of what we are trying to achieve, which should be a balanced test side.

When we were in India last we had batsmen (Cook, KP) and spinners (Swann, Monty) who were world class performers. Not this time, by a mile.
